It took Covid to knock over the first two dinosaurs, department stores and regional malls. Now bank failure and consolidation will come for the third, large bank branches. Smart banks like Citicorp began shedding them back in the 2000s, but the others have held on to buildings with huge parking lots around them. Expect the “bad bank” disposition departments to not only shed the acquired banks branches, but also those of the home bank as well.
